PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE

The subjunctive is a mood. The subjunctive usually occurs in sentences with two verbs and a conjunction like que separating the verbs. The subjunctive occurs in the second verb. It expresses the following:

a) A wish or desire, often with the purpose of getting someone else to do something.

Quiero que vengas a la fiesta.

I want you to come to the party.

Insisto que comas en el patio.

I insist that you eat on the patio.

Prefieren que lleguemos pronto.

They prefer we arrive soon.
